Babies are born learning and, when young children don't get what their growing brains need, they miss out on developing important social, emotional and academic skills. Children who enter Kindergarten behind are likely to remain behind throughout their school years. These gaps are difficult and expensive to close, and they can last a lifetime.

*25% more likely to drop out of school

*40% more likely to become a teen parent

*50% more likely to be placed in special education

*60% less likely to attend college

Access to high-quality, affordable early childhood education helps parents—especially mothers—enter and stay in the workforce; and helps employers attract and retain talented, productive workers.    

70% of non-working low-income parents with young children cite lack of affordable child care as the reason they are not in the workforce.

Lack of access to high quality child care has significant impacts on the local and state economy.  Texas loses an estimated $9.39 billion annually from its economy due to breakdowns in childcare. 

*An estimated $1.8 billion is lost annually in tax revenue due to childcare issues. 

*30 % of respondents reported that they / someone in their household has left a job, not taken a job, or changed jobs because of problems with childcare in the last 12 months.

*55 % of parents who voluntarily leave their jobs do so when their child(ren) is two years old or younger, indicating that childcare for infants and toddlers is the greatest need
